Bee Equipment Storage

OK so every beekeeper will know that you can NEVER have enough storage for all your equipment. If you have enough storage then you simply don’t have enough equipment!!

I have been looking at using some of the outside storage for the old boxes, feeders, queen excluders etc. and stuff. My wood shed was built for wood and really should be used for wood. We needed to store the wood over the year so that it is properly dry and ready for burning which means that we need to have 2 large compartments one for drying and one for using.. This doesn’t work if one or both of them are full of bee stuff!!!

We had an old storage outside that was not weather proof, and needed a bit of TLC. It used to be the bin storage.

So this is what I wanted. A nice secure structure that was mostly dry. planned it with 4×2 timber and a bit of cladding and some Caroline roof to match the wood shed from before.

The mission however was to mortice and tenon the joints so that the main frame stood tall without any nails. Good excuse for a new toy and my Router did not disappoint. I think however I spent more time making the jigs to cut the joints than I did actually cutting all the joints!!

The biggest problem was that the 2 base lengths were different heights and therefore there was a little bit of wonkiness that had to be corrected for. Had I anticipated this from the beginning then i wouldn’t have cut the joints into the unlevelled footings. None the less I am very proud of the achievement. A nearly-nailless storage shed!

And…. It is already full!!!
